Polus and SIBUR unite to protect Russia's biodiversity with new tech-driven partnership

Polus and SIBUR have signed a cooperation agreement to work together on biodiversity conservation. The deal was finalised at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Both companies will now combine their expertise to strengthen environmental protection efforts across Russia. The partnership will focus on using Russian technologies to monitor ecosystems, rare animal species and plant life. One of the first projects involves a year-round monitoring system on Talan Island, designed to observe bird behaviour and track population trends.

In the Magadan Region, Polus has already collaborated with scientists on initiatives to study and protect unique ecosystems. Research expeditions have also taken place within Chersky National Park, where teams examined local flora and fauna, aquatic ecosystems, and rare species.

The agreement was signed by Polus Vice President for Government Relations Sergei Zhuravlev and SIBUR Management Board member and CEO Alexey Kozlov. Both companies plan to systematise their existing knowledge to improve corporate environmental programmes. They will also launch joint educational and scientific outreach projects to promote awareness of Russia’s natural heritage. For Polus, biodiversity conservation remains a central part of its environmental strategy. The partnership with SIBUR aims to expand research, monitoring, and public engagement in protecting Russia’s ecosystems. The companies will continue developing initiatives to safeguard rare species and natural habitats.
