32 dead geckos found at keeper's home in Bavaria - 96 Geckos Found in Horrific Neglect—32 Dead, Keeper Faces Charges

Authorities in Lower Franconia have uncovered a shocking case of animal neglect after discovering 96 geckos at a private keeper's home. Of these, 32 were already dead, while the remaining 64 were rescued and temporarily rehomed. The keeper now faces legal consequences under Germany's Animal Welfare Act.

The grim discovery was made during an inspection at the reptile keeper's property. Officials found the geckos in severely neglected conditions, with preliminary findings suggesting starvation and dehydration as the likely causes of death. The exact circumstances will be confirmed through forensic examination by the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority (LGL).

The keeper reportedly showed no remorse during the investigation. Instead, they became aggressive, verbally abusing both veterinary officials and police officers. Their uncooperative behavior has further escalated the legal repercussions.

All 64 surviving geckos were removed from the property and placed in temporary care. The keeper will now be held financially responsible for the costs of the investigation, as well as the ongoing care of the rescued reptiles.

The case has been handed over to prosecutors, with the keeper facing charges under Germany's Animal Welfare Act. The rescued geckos remain in temporary housing while authorities determine their long-term placement. The forensic report on the deceased reptiles is still pending.
