Vladivostok cracks down on illegal logging after 25M ruble losses

Vladivostok has seen a sharp rise in illegal tree felling this year. Authorities have recorded 72 cases since January 2026, with total damages exceeding 25 million rubles. All evidence has now been passed to law enforcement for further action. The most severe incident occurred in Akademichesky Eco-Park at 105 Kirov Street. There, 229 trees were cut down without permission, causing 2.95 million rubles in damages. City officials have already recovered 2.6 million rubles from fines and penalties.

Tree felling in Vladivostok requires official approval from the Ecological Monitoring Department. Those caught breaking the rules face administrative or criminal charges, depending on the harm caused. Alexander Volobuyev, head of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resource Management Department, has overseen the crackdown.

In one high-profile case, authorities have filed a lawsuit against Russian Railways to recover environmental damages. The move signals a tougher stance on illegal logging in the region. The city has strengthened enforcement against unauthorized tree cutting. Over 25 million rubles in losses have been documented, with partial funds already reclaimed. Legal action is underway to hold violators accountable and prevent further damage.
