Primorsky Krai braces for hazardous smog as pollution spikes under poor weather
Unfavourable weather conditions are expected across most of Primorsky Krai from midnight to 7:00 p.m. on June 27. Pollutants such as vehicle emissions, industrial discharges, and dust are likely to accumulate near ground level during this period. The region has already experienced several such episodes this spring. Thick smog previously covered Vladivostok on March 17, leading to poor visibility and breathing problems. Fine particles in the smog can enter the lungs deeply, causing inflammation and cardiovascular issues. The Primorsky Krai Health Ministry has advised residents to limit outdoor activities, close windows, and wear protective masks when smog is severe.
Industrial processes and equipment will face temporary restrictions or shutdowns to cut harmful emissions. Businesses using coal fuel or emitting combustion byproducts and coal dust are most affected. These measures are part of the federal Clean Air project, which requires affected businesses to switch to special operating modes during adverse weather.
The poor dispersion of pollutants is due to the current meteorological conditions. The situation is expected to return to normal once the weather changes. The restrictions aim to reduce health risks linked to high pollution levels. Residents are urged to follow official advice to minimise exposure. The measures will remain in place until the weather improves.
