A developer has created a World of Warcraft clone called World of Claudecraft in just two days. The game was built using Anthropic's AI model, Claude Fable 5, and is available to play for free in a browser or self-hosted. The project reportedly used 91% of the creator’s monthly allowance under Anthropic’s Max-20x subscription, costing nearly $200. Despite this, the game includes nine classes with specialisations, three zones, and a 90-objective questline with AI-generated narrative. Players can also attempt 10-player raids after finishing the main story.
Visually and in terms of detail, World of Claudecraft does not match the quality of World of Warcraft or other major MMORPGs. Some players have reported frequent performance problems, while other developers have criticised the open-source code as disorganised. The creator has invited contributions to improve the code through pull requests. World of Claudecraft offers a free, accessible alternative to established MMORPGs. While it lacks the polish of Blizzard’s long-running World of Warcraft, which has millions of monthly players and constant updates, its rapid development and open-source nature provide a unique experiment in game creation.
