Sea-Tac Airport expansion sparks community meeting on local impacts
A community meeting about Sea-Tac Airport’s expansion proposal will take place on 17 June 2023. Organised by Sea-Tac Airport Communities 4 Justice, the event aims to inform residents about the project and its potential effects on local neighbourhoods. The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Glacier Middle School Cafeteria in SeaTac. It targets residents from SeaTac, Burien, Des Moines, Renton, Auburn, Beacon Hill, Georgetown, South Park, and the Duwamish Valley.
STACC4J, a coalition of residents and partner groups affected by airport operations, will host the session. Attendees will learn about the expansion’s possible impacts on air quality, noise, sleep, health, and children in nearby areas. The Port of Seattle recently published a 6,000-page Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the project.
The event also seeks to help community members understand the proposal and take action before the public comment period ends. Free banh mi sandwiches, drinks, and door prizes will be provided. The meeting offers a chance for residents to engage with the expansion process. Information shared will focus on concrete impacts and steps attendees can take. Food and refreshments will be available to encourage participation.
