The 13th interdisciplinary conference on domestic violence took place in Braunschweig on Thursday. Professionals from various fields gathered to discuss support services and practical solutions for those affected by abuse. Around 180 experts attended the event, which centred on the link between domestic violence and mental health. The discussions included how to address offenders whose behaviour is driven by mental health conditions.
Presentations covered a range of topics, from psychosocial support during legal cases to Munich’s women’s shelter services. Other sessions explored Lower Saxony’s trauma network and psychiatric perspectives on domestic abuse. Public Prosecutor General Detlev Rust stressed the importance of customised support for victims dealing with mental health challenges.
Police President Thomas Ring underlined the need for stronger cooperation between professions and institutions. The conference created opportunities for expert exchange, leading to new ideas for improving support systems. The event provided a platform for sharing knowledge and developing better strategies. Insights from the discussions are expected to enhance support for victims of domestic violence. Collaboration between sectors remains a key focus for future progress.
