Getnet Launches AI-Powered Payments for Automated Merchant Transactions
Getnet, Santander’s global merchant payments platform, has introduced new AI-powered features for merchants. These allow businesses to accept payments initiated by AI agents, marking a step forward in automated commerce. The move aligns with the growing role of AI assistants in handling transactions for users. The new infrastructure enables merchants to process payments automatically, whether initiated by their own AI agents or through conversational platforms. It supports a more open and secure model for commerce, where AI can be embedded at every stage of the payment journey. Getnet has partnered with Mastercard and Visa to ensure compatibility, integrating Mastercard Agent Pay and progressing with Visa Intelligent Commerce.
The solution is built on open, interoperable, and protocol-agnostic standards, allowing direct connection to Getnet’s global payments network. It removes the need for complex integrations and includes robust identification and authentication to enhance security. Initial tests have already taken place in Mexico and Latin America, using Mastercard Agent Pay and an AI agent developed by Mexican startup Neivor.
Currently, the offering is available to businesses with their own AI agents. Getnet plans to expand access to smaller businesses and SMEs in the future. The company is also collaborating with global payments and technology leaders to promote open standards for Agentic Commerce. The launch supports a shift towards AI-driven transactions. Merchants can now securely accept payments from AI agents, streamlining the process for users. Getnet’s initiative aims to make commerce more accessible and efficient for businesses of all sizes.
