Bremen and Lower Saxony Shatter June Heat Records in 2023

June 2023 brought record-breaking heat to Bremen and Lower Saxony. Both regions experienced unusually high temperatures, with new extremes set towards the end of the month. The month saw an average temperature of 18.7°C in both Bremen and Lower Saxony. This was over three degrees higher than the long-term average for June.

On June 28, Bremen recorded a temperature of 37.3°C, surpassing its previous June high. Lower Saxony also set a new record the same day, with temperatures exceeding 40°C for the first time in its recorded history.

Rainfall was also above average in both areas. Bremen received about 83 litres per square metre, roughly 14% more than usual. Lower Saxony saw around 82 litres per square metre, about 7% above normal levels.

Sunshine was plentiful as well. Bremen enjoyed approximately 235 hours of sunlight, while Lower Saxony had around 239 hours. The month ended with new temperature records in both regions. Higher rainfall and extended sunshine marked an unusual June for Bremen and Lower Saxony. These conditions set new benchmarks for future climate comparisons.
