Base network halts for two hours after Ethereum layer-2 outage
Base, one of the busiest Ethereum layer-2 networks, suffered a mainnet outage on 25 June 2026. The disruption lasted nearly two hours, drawing attention due to the network’s high user activity. All funds remained secure during the incident. The outage began at 16:03 UTC and ended at 16:52 UTC. A faulty block prevented new blocks from being built, halting transaction processing, deposits, and withdrawals across the network.
Node operators were later advised to restart their systems to resume syncing with the sequencer. This was not the first such incident for Base, as a similar disruption occurred in August 2025.
The team is now examining the root cause and plans to release a detailed post-incident report. The network resumed normal operations after the two-hour pause. Users and infrastructure providers experienced temporary delays, but no funds were lost. A full investigation into the cause is underway.
