Omsk Oblast's Hepatitis Crisis Worsens as Cases Surge Beyond National Averages

Omsk Oblast now has the highest rate of viral hepatitis in Russia. In 2025, the region recorded 2,143 cases of chronic viral hepatitis, amounting to 118.27 per 100,000 people. This figure is more than twice the national average. The problem extends beyond Omsk Oblast. A total of 35 Russian regions now report infection rates above the country’s average. Among them, Kamchatka Krai, the Republic of Crimea, and St. Petersburg show rates roughly double those of other areas.

Hepatitis C is a particular concern in Omsk Oblast. The region saw 1,819 cases in 2025, with an incidence rate of 100.39 per 100,000 people. This marks a critical increase, with rates more than doubling compared to the previous three years. Omsk Oblast leads the country in viral hepatitis cases. The surge in Hepatitis C infections highlights a worsening public health situation in the region. Authorities now face the challenge of addressing rates far above the national norm.
