Magadan plants 1,000 trees in Russia's Garden of Memory campaign
The Magadan region has planted nearly 1,000 trees as part of the Garden of Memory campaign. This year’s events fall under Russia’s Year of National Unity. The initiative honours fallen defenders of the homeland. The Garden of Memory campaign began in 2020 on the instruction of President Vladimir Putin. It is run by the Memory Garden nonprofit, Victory Volunteers, and the Memory of the Victory Commanders Foundation. Over six years, millions of volunteers from 83 countries have planted more than 160 million trees.
In Magadan, 50 saplings of birch and Stalingrad poplar were recently planted at the Presidential Regional Sports Center. Victoria Golubleva, Deputy Speaker of the Magadan Regional Duma, oversaw the event. Regional lawmaker Maxim Malakhov coordinated the Clean Country environmental initiative alongside the planting. The campaign continues to expand its reach. Its goal remains to honour those who defended the country through widespread tree planting. The Magadan region has now contributed nearly 1,000 trees to the global effort.
