Kalyan-Dombivli officials launch crackdown on urban congestion and river pollution

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has stepped up efforts to address urban challenges in the city. Senior officials recently inspected key areas, including the Waldhuni River and the SATIS Project near Kalyan Railway Station, to tackle long-standing issues raised by residents. KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goel and Mayor Harshali Choudhari first visited the SATIS Project. They examined traffic congestion, pedestrian movement, and unauthorised hawkers causing obstructions. Officials identified choke points and discussed ways to streamline vehicular flow and improve pedestrian safety. Senior staff were instructed to take immediate action to ease congestion and enhance accessibility for commuters.

The civic team then inspected the Waldhuni River stretch. They assessed the river’s current condition, pinpointed major pollution sources, and reviewed sewage discharge points. Encroachments along the riverbanks were also documented. Following this, the Mayor directed officials to create a detailed plan for river cleaning, stopping untreated sewage, removing encroachments, and developing riverfront infrastructure.

The renewed push comes after demands from local residents and social groups for river rejuvenation. The proposed efforts will involve multiple departments, with a focus on sustainability and improving the urban landscape around the river corridor. The KDMC has also reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and better public infrastructure. The inspections have set the stage for concrete action. A comprehensive plan will address pollution, encroachments, and infrastructure along the Waldhuni River. At the SATIS Project, measures to reduce congestion and improve commuter access are now underway.
