Astana wages all-out war on mosquitoes with 90% reduction goal

Astana has launched a large-scale mosquito control campaign across the city. The operations began on 16 June and aim to cut mosquito numbers by up to 90%. Over 26,000 hectares have already been treated in the effort. The campaign runs in six phases, with each phase lasting 20 days per month. Teams work in two shifts, operating round the clock. Night operations take place from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM.

More than 150 trained pest control specialists are involved. They use mechanical rotary sprayers, specialised vehicles, drones, and a boat to reach different areas. The goal is to suppress mosquito populations rather than eliminate them entirely.

Authorities have advised residents to stay away from treated zones. They also recommend keeping windows closed during spraying to avoid exposure. The campaign is ongoing and covers a vast area of the city. Specialists continue to work in shifts to maintain control over mosquito numbers. Residents are urged to follow safety guidelines during the operations.
