Major Companies Join 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Coalition for Real-Time Clean Power

The push for cleaner electricity procurement is gaining momentum as more businesses adopt time-based tracking. The Climate Group has expanded its 24/7 Carbon-Free Coalition, with eight major companies now on board. The shift reflects a growing focus on matching clean energy supply with demand in real time. The coalition was launched to help businesses transition from volume-based clean energy claims to hourly performance matching. Members will benefit from peer networking, knowledge sharing, and technical support. Among the new members are AirTrunk, AstraZeneca, Cathay Financial Holdings, Cathay Life, Google, Princeton Digital Group, Shree Cement, and Unilever.

Unilever joined to better align its electricity demand with clean energy availability across its operating markets. The approach allows companies to identify gaps between their power needs and the clean supply at any given hour.

Adoption of hourly matching is accelerating. Over 1,500 businesses worldwide now track their electricity use on an hourly basis, three times more than last year. Energy suppliers offering these tariffs have also quadrupled in the past 12 months. The UK currently leads with the highest number of hourly tariff options available. All coalition members have committed to measuring and reporting hourly matched electricity use in at least one market within two years. The UK remains at the forefront of this trend, with more suppliers providing hourly tariffs than any other country. The expansion of the coalition signals a broader industry shift toward precise, time-based clean energy matching.
