Toyota recalls 12,000 SUVs in China over critical software flaw
Toyota is recalling more than 9,000 Land Cruiser 250 SUVs in China due to a software fault. The issue affects models produced between July 16, 2024, and September 27, 2025. A separate batch of 2,945 imported Lexus GX500h SUVs is also included in the recall. The recall involves the Land Cruiser 250, also known as the Prado, and certain Lexus GX500h vehicles. The Lexus models were assembled between February 28, 2024, and December 26, 2025. Both ranges suffer from a software glitch that may prevent instrument panel data from appearing when the engine starts.
The FAW-Toyota joint venture is managing the recall. Affected owners will receive free software updates at authorised service centres. This fix is designed to restore full functionality to the instrument cluster and eliminate the operational risks caused by the defect. The software update aims to resolve the display issue completely. All recalled vehicles will have their instrument panels checked and repaired at no cost to the owners. The process is expected to ensure full compliance with safety standards.
