Thane Launches Special POSH Compliance Drive To Strengthen Women's Workplace Safety

Thane cracks down on workplaces to enforce POSH Act compliance

Thane district administration has launched a special inspection campaign to enforce the POSH Act. The initiative seeks to strengthen compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013. Its goal is to ensure safe and respectful workplaces for women across the district. The campaign will verify that organisations meet all legal requirements under the POSH Act. This includes forming an Internal Committee (IC) for workplaces with 10 or more employees. Government offices, private firms, schools, colleges, hospitals, malls, hotels, and factories must comply.

A team of officials will inspect these establishments to check the IC’s formation, composition, and adherence to other provisions. They will also ensure annual reports are submitted, awareness programmes are conducted, and employees receive training. Registration on the SHe-Box portal will be mandatory.

Thane District Women and Child Development Officer Namita Shinde stressed that compliance is not optional. She warned that organisations failing to meet the standards or violating the Act will face strict penalties. The campaign aims to create harassment-free workplaces for women in Thane. It will enforce legal obligations and hold non-compliant organisations accountable. Inspections and punitive measures will ensure adherence to the POSH Act.
