Spain Braces for Heavy Storms and Flooding Starting Monday

Severe weather is set to hit parts of Spain starting Monday 15. Heavy rain, hail and strong winds will bring difficult conditions to several regions. The storms are expected to develop mainly in the afternoon and evening. On Monday, thunderstorms will intensify across central and western Spain. The Central System, Cantabrian Mountains, Iberian System and parts of Galicia and Extremadura will be hardest hit. Roads will be particularly hazardous during peak storm hours. Sudden drops in visibility and surface water will make travel difficult. Storms will not be evenly spread, with some areas facing heavy downpours while nearby locations stay dry.

By Tuesday, the unstable weather will persist. AEMET forecasts continued storm development in central and northern Spain. Mountainous regions, including the Central System and northern provinces, will remain at highest risk.

Conditions will begin to settle on Wednesday. Atmospheric instability will ease, though isolated thunderstorms may still occur. The storms are expected to bring heavy rain, hail and strong winds to affected regions. Localised flooding and poor road conditions are likely in the worst-hit areas. Residual instability will linger before a gradual return to calmer weather.
