Russian Court Fines Company 80M Rubles for Negligent Forest Fire

A Russian court has ruled against Snegurovskoye LLC for causing a forest fire through negligence. The company failed to maintain a required firebreak, leading to significant environmental damage. The incident began when a forest fire erupted along the boundary of a protected reserve and land owned by Snegurovskoye LLC. Investigations revealed the company had not complied with fire safety regulations by leaving the firebreak unattended.

The Chernihivsky District Court examined the case brought by the Vladivostok Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor. Judges confirmed a direct link between the company’s inaction and the fire’s spread. The ruling fully supported the prosecutor’s arguments. Snegurovskoye LLC must now pay over 80 million rubles in compensation. The funds will cover the harm done to wildlife and their natural habitats. The decision reinforces accountability for environmental violations in the region.
