America's cleanest and dirtiest cities revealed in shocking new survey
A recent survey by LawnStarter has ranked US cities based on pollution, living conditions, waste infrastructure, and resident dissatisfaction. The study highlighted stark differences between the cleanest and most polluted urban areas across the country. South Bend, Indiana, took the top spot as the cleanest city in the ranking. Wilmington, North Carolina, and Des Moines, Iowa, followed closely behind in second and third place respectively.
At the other end of the spectrum, San Bernardino, California, was named the most polluted city. Poor air quality, littered roadways, and high resident dissatisfaction contributed to its low ranking. Los Angeles and Ontario, California, also featured in the top five dirtiest cities, making California dominant in the list with nine entries in the top ten.
Newark, New Jersey, ranked sixth most unsanitary with an overall score of 48.06. Its residents expressed significant dissatisfaction, placing it third out of 303 cities for pollution concerns. Detroit, Michigan, secured the third dirtiest spot due to a high smoking population, toxic chemical waste management, and inadequate living conditions. Reading, Pennsylvania, came fourth, largely because of its high greenhouse gas emissions per capita.
The survey also noted that littering, especially from cigarette butts and vape devices, plays a major role in worsening pollution across US cities. The findings reveal a clear divide in cleanliness and environmental quality among US cities. San Bernardino leads as the most polluted, while South Bend stands out as the cleanest. The data underscores the impact of factors like air quality, waste management, and resident feedback on urban rankings.
