Ethereum's $156B stablecoin dominance cements its role in digital finance
Ethereum continues to play a major role in digital finance. As of June 17, 2026, its market capitalisation stands at $211.95 billion, with ETH trading at $1,751.49. The network also hosts a significant share of global dollar-pegged assets. Stablecoins on Ethereum have reached a total value of $156.55 billion. This figure represents roughly 74% of ETH’s market capitalisation, highlighting the network’s central position in dollar-denominated transactions. USDT alone accounts for $80.31 billion of this amount, or about 43.05% of all USDT in circulation worldwide.
Over the past 30 days, the supply of USDT on Ethereum has slightly decreased. It fell by 3.14%, dropping from $82.96 billion to $80.35 billion. Despite this contraction, Ethereum’s stablecoin pool remains far larger than its DeFi total value locked, which is $39.61 billion. This DeFi figure equals around 18.7% of ETH’s market cap. Ethereum supports a vast amount of dollar liquidity through stablecoins. The network’s stablecoin supply is nearly three-quarters the size of its native token’s market value. This reinforces its function as a key settlement layer for digital dollar transactions.
