Texas solar boom accelerates as Origis Energy secures $900M for expansion

Texas has become a major player in solar energy, exporting equipment to other states and leading in installed capacity. Despite political challenges, the sector continues to grow rapidly. A key firm, Origis Energy, has now secured $900 million in new financing to expand its projects. Origis Energy recently closed a $900 million financing deal to speed up its solar and storage development. The package includes $650 million in funded credit facilities and a $250 million Letter of Credit. Leading banks such as First Citizens Bank, ING Capital, Natixis, and Santander arranged the funding.

The company has expanded quickly, quadrupling its operations in just two years. Its pipeline now exceeds 20 gigawatts, with 5 gigawatts set for near-term construction. Previously, Origis Energy had already raised $545 million for a 700-megawatt solar pipeline in Texas.

By 2024, utility-scale solar electricity in Texas began surpassing coal on a monthly basis. This shift highlights the state’s growing role in renewable energy, even amid federal policy changes. The new financing will help Origis Energy push forward with its ambitious projects. Texas now supplies solar power beyond its borders, reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry. The state’s solar capacity continues to rise, outpacing traditional energy sources like coal.
