Shanghai Unveils Kazakhstan's Ancestral Legacy in Landmark Cultural Exhibition
An international exhibition titled Ancestral Legacy: Continuity of Traditions has opened at the Shanghai History Museum. It presents the history and culture of Kazakhstan through a wide range of artefacts and displays. The event marks a significant moment in the cultural partnership between Almaty and Shanghai. The exhibition features nearly 100 items from the Almaty Museums Association. These include ethnographic artefacts, archival documents, photographs, traditional musical instruments, and silver dirhams minted in Almaty in 1287. A dedicated section highlights Kazakh musical heritage, with QR codes allowing visitors to listen to recordings of folk instruments.
The show builds on the sister-city relationship between Almaty and Shanghai. This bond was reinforced by a cooperation memorandum signed between the Almaty Museums Association and the Shanghai History Museum. The agreement has encouraged further joint cultural projects. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 30 August 2026. It offers visitors a detailed look at Kazakhstan’s rich cultural heritage. The collaboration between the two cities continues to grow through such shared initiatives.
