Chicago braces for 110°F heat as Extreme Heat Warning extends through Friday
Chicago is currently under an Extreme Heat Warning from Monday to Friday. The city expects its hottest days on Tuesday and Wednesday, with feels-like temperatures reaching between 105 and 110 degrees during peak hours. ComEd has shared tips to help residents stay cool and save energy. Fans should be set to spin counterclockwise to push cool air downwards. However, they cool people, not rooms, so turning them off when leaving a space can reduce energy use.
To improve efficiency, vents should remain unblocked to allow proper air circulation. Closing blinds on sunny days also prevents air conditioning units from overworking. Adjusting the thermostat to a higher setting while maintaining comfort helps cut costs. When away, setting it 7 to 10 degrees higher than usual is recommended.
ComEd’s Smart Assistance Manager offers additional resources for customers. Those interested can also enrol in hourly pricing to track and use electricity during cheaper periods. The warning remains in effect until Friday. Residents are encouraged to follow these steps to manage the heat and reduce energy consumption. ComEd continues to provide support and tools to assist customers during the extreme temperatures.
