North Kazakhstan Region is boosting its agricultural sector with new technologies and crop innovations. The area already plays a major role in Kazakhstan’s oilseed and grain supply, producing a quarter of the country’s oilseeds. Now, farms are adopting digital tools and advanced farming methods to improve efficiency and output. The region is introducing high-performance grain varieties and adjusting crop rotation to increase profitability per hectare. Among these, Calixo, an ultra-early soft spring wheat, is under trial at the Kyzylzhar Zhem LLP farm. The North Kazakhstan Agricultural Research Station is monitoring its performance for potential wider use. Calixo matures in just 85 days and can produce up to 60 centners per hectare in ideal conditions.
Digital tools are also transforming local farming. Drones and soil analysers are becoming common, helping farmers refine their practices. Additionally, a new pelletized alfalfa plant is planned to supply livestock farmers with stable, high-quality feed. The region is also exploring biofuel production from crop residues like wheat and flax straw. These changes aim to strengthen North Kazakhstan’s position as a key agricultural hub. The adoption of new varieties, digital tools, and sustainable practices is set to enhance both productivity and stability in the region’s farming sector.
