Uttar Pradesh schools roll out heat wave safety guidelines for 2026
The Uttar Pradesh Government has introduced new measures to protect students from heat waves in schools. The Basic Education Department released the 'Teachers' Guideline-2026 for Sensitising Students Towards Heat-related Illnesses' for the upcoming academic session. It aims to create a safer and climate-resilient learning environment for children. Under the new guideline, teachers will educate students about heat safety through morning assemblies, classroom lessons, and daily routines. Schools must also prepare a School Heat Action Plan, which includes appointing Health Nodal Teachers to oversee health precautions.
If a student shows signs of heat-related illness, they will be moved to a shaded area and given first aid. Schools are required to keep records of heat wave incidents, review them regularly, and conduct mock drills to ensure preparedness.
Clean drinking water will be available at all times, and students will be encouraged to drink every 20 to 30 minutes. School timings will follow government instructions, with outdoor activities scheduled before 10 a.m. during extreme heat. Students will also be advised to wear light-coloured cotton clothes, use caps or umbrellas, and eat water-rich fruits. The guideline equips teachers with the knowledge and skills to respond to heat-related risks. It ensures schools take proactive steps to safeguard students during high temperatures. The government’s initiative reinforces its commitment to a healthier learning environment for children.
