Bangalore's 8-Kilometre Bloom Avenue Transforms Urban Corridor with 6,000 Saplings

UnboxingBLR (UBLR) took part in a large-scale plantation drive on 27 June, joining the Bangalore Development Authority’s (BDA) attempt to set a Guinness World Record. The initiative aimed to bring back intentional, aesthetically planned greenery to a key urban corridor in Bengaluru. UBLR’s Bloom Avenue project covered 8 kilometres of the major arterial road linking Mysuru Road and Magadi Road. Over 6,000 saplings were planted along avenue roads and roundabouts in the new Kempegowda Layout. The corridor was split into eight one-kilometre sections, each featuring unique colour pairings to ensure continuous blooming throughout the year.

The organisation funded and carried out all ground operations, including digging pits and planting. Native, colour-sequenced flowering species were chosen so that some part of the corridor would always be in bloom. BDA provided the flowering saplings and supported the effort as a partner.

UBLR will maintain the saplings for the first three years. Phase 2 of the project plans to expand planting to service roads and continue upkeep of the existing plants. The project was part of BDA’s broader record-breaking plantation drive. It highlights UBLR’s commitment to restoring Bengaluru’s green heritage. The initiative has already transformed a major urban route with sustained, colourful greenery.
