Signify's Rural Lighting Initiative Expands to Curb Human-Wildlife Conflicts

Signify, the global leader in lighting, has reaffirmed its dedication to safer, more resilient rural communities through its CSR initiative, Signify Har Gaon Roshan. The company recently showcased its progress and future plans at an event attended by Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge). Since 2019, Signify Har Gaon Roshan has transformed over 400 forest fringe villages in the Terai region. The project has installed more than 9,000 LED streetlights across 400 villages in Uttar Pradesh alone. These efforts aim to reduce human-wildlife conflict and enhance community safety.

At the event, Signify presented a Letter of Intent to expand the initiative. The plan includes installing 1,500 additional LED streetlights in 67 villages within the Katarniaghat landscape, an area with frequent human-wildlife clashes. A coffee table book was also launched, documenting the project’s impact in Dudhwa National Park.

Dr. Saxena acknowledged the growing issue of human-wildlife conflict. He praised Signify’s role in improving rural safety and development through sustainable lighting solutions. The company’s commitment to sustainability is further recognised by its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and its EcoVadis Platinum rating.

Signify reported sales of EUR 5.8 billion in 2025. With around 27,000 employees, it operates in over 70 markets worldwide. The expansion of Signify Har Gaon Roshan will bring better lighting to more villages at risk of human-wildlife conflict. The initiative continues to support rural development with practical, sustainable solutions. The project’s growth reflects Signify’s ongoing focus on community resilience and safety.
