Toronto opens early pools to beat the summer heatwave

Temperatures are rising in Toronto as summer approaches. To help residents cool off, the city has opened some outdoor pools and wading pools ahead of schedule. Fifteen outdoor pools and 16 wading pools across Toronto opened on Saturday. Among the first to welcome swimmers were Donald D. Summerville Olympic Pools, Fairbank Memorial Park, and Giovanni Caboto Outdoor Pool. These locations now operate with specific weekday and weekend hours.

By June 26, more than 50 outdoor pools will be open under regular schedules. Most will close on September 6, but the initial 15 will stay open until September 7 with adjusted hours from September 1. All wading pools are now open daily until September 6, while city splash pads run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until September 13.

When a heat warning is issued, the city will extend pool hours until 11:45 p.m. Several wading pools, including those in Christie Pits Park and High Park, are currently open on weekends from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The early openings aim to provide relief during hot weather. Residents can access extended hours and additional cooling options as the season progresses. All facilities will operate according to published schedules until early September.
