Anthropic's Claude Tag transforms Slack into a persistent AI teammate

Anthropic has launched Claude Tag, a new product that integrates Claude directly into Slack as a persistent team member. The tool replaces the company’s earlier Claude in Slack app and is now available in beta for Enterprise and Team plan customers. The original Claude in Slack app first appeared in October 2025. It allowed users to interact with Claude on demand. In December, Anthropic expanded its offerings by adding Claude Code to Slack, letting developers tag Claude for coding support.

Claude Tag now provides a dedicated identity for Claude within a workspace. It includes its own accounts for connected tools. Each channel has one shared Claude, enabling team members to see and continue tasks started by others.

With ambient mode enabled, Claude Tag can monitor conversations, flag key information, and follow up on inactive threads. It also accumulates institutional knowledge over time, works asynchronously, and can take action without prompts. Competitors like GitHub and Cognition have similarly integrated AI agents with Slack. Block, led by Jack Dorsey, has also built an agent orchestration system using its open-source Goose framework, managed entirely from Slack. Claude Tag is currently in beta for select customers. It aims to enhance team collaboration by maintaining a shared, persistent AI presence in Slack channels. The product reflects a broader trend of enterprise AI agents operating through team messaging platforms.
