Free fertility consultations bring hope to Magadan's struggling couples
A reproductive health specialist from EmbryLife recently visited Magadan to offer free consultations. Anastasia Denisovna Alekseeva, an obstetrician-gynaecologist, met with local residents on 20–21 April 2026. The sessions aimed to address concerns about infertility and treatment options. Infertility affects about one in six or seven couples in Russia. Doctors diagnose it after a year of regular unprotected intercourse for those under 35, or after six months for women over 35. Male factors contribute to 50–60% of cases, while female factors account for 40–50%.
Twenty-seven women from Magadan attended the free in-person consultations. Five sought advice on frozen embryo transfer. Another five were referred for further examination and possible surgical treatment in the region.
In 2026, seventeen women from the Kolyma region were approved for IVF under Russia’s mandatory health insurance scheme. This coverage applies to couples with a confirmed infertility diagnosis. Residents of Magadan can also access free online consultations with specialists from EmbryLife’s St. Petersburg centre. The consultations provided direct support to local women exploring fertility treatments. IVF remains accessible through mandatory health insurance for eligible couples. Free online advice continues to be available for those unable to attend in person.
