A One-Person Startup Plans to Build a Luxury Moon Hotel by 2030

GRU Space, a startup with a single employee, has announced ambitious plans to build a luxury hotel on the Moon. Founder Skyler Chan aims to kickstart space tourism, with the first lunar missions expected within six years. The project has already attracted early funding from Y Combinator, a well-known investor in tech startups.

The company's first step is a Moon hotel designed to resemble San Francisco's Palace of the Fine Arts. Potential guests can now reserve a spot by paying a deposit of between $250,000 and $1 million. No other non-US company has publicly revealed solid plans for permanent Moon structures by 2030.

Chan's long-term vision extends beyond tourism. GRU Space eventually wants to mine resources from the Moon, Mars, and other celestial bodies. The goal is to support humanity's expansion into space over the coming decades.

The initial seed funding will help refine the project and attract further investment. Despite the bold timeline, the company currently consists only of Chan, who remains the sole employee as of late 2025.

GRU Space's plans include launching the first lunar hotel missions by 2030. The project relies on early deposits from wealthy travellers and continued funding from investors. If successful, it could mark the beginning of commercial space tourism and resource extraction beyond Earth.
