AkzoNobel's Rhythm of Blues™ Redefines the Future of Car Design
AkzoNobel has unveiled its latest automotive colour collection, Rhythm of Blues™, as part of its annual ColorSurfaces trend initiative. The new family of blues reflects the evolving tastes of car designers and consumers. It also supports the company's push for more sustainable and durable coatings.
The Rhythm of Blues™ collection features three distinct shades: Long Swing™, Mellow Flow™, and Free Groove™. Each hue was developed using AkzoNobel's advanced coating technology, ensuring depth, movement, and long-lasting finish. The colours also align with the company's sustainability goals, offering improved material efficiency and solvent optimisation.
Long Swing™ conveys strength and quiet confidence, while Mellow Flow™ brings a sense of balance and modern elegance. Free Groove™, the boldest of the three, radiates creativity and individuality. Together, they represent the shifting moods and design directions of the next generation of vehicles.
Since its launch, the collection has already appeared in real-world applications. In 2023, BMW showcased the i Vision Circular concept in Munich, painted in one of the new blues. A year later, Volkswagen introduced the production ID. Buzz GTX in Rhythm Blue across Europe. More recently, custom paint jobs using the collection were featured at the Essen Motor Show 2025, proving its appeal beyond factory lines.
As part of AkzoNobel's broader ColorSurfaces programme, the Rhythm of Blues™ family joins previous trend collections designed to inspire innovation. The initiative explores future colour and material directions not just for cars, but also for aerospace and consumer electronics.
The Rhythm of Blues™ collection is now available for automotive manufacturers, aftermarket specialists, and designers. Its use in concept cars, production models, and custom projects demonstrates its versatility. The colours also reinforce AkzoNobel's focus on combining visual impact with sustainable coating solutions.
