Al-Bawarih Winds Bring Scorching 50°C Heat and Dust Storms This Week

A period of extreme heat and powerful winds is sweeping across the region as the Al-Bawarih season takes hold. These strong, dust-filled northern winds arrive in distinct phases, bringing soaring temperatures and arid conditions. Forecasters warn of temperatures climbing above 48°C, with peaks near 50°C expected by the weekend.

The Al-Bawarih season officially began between June 7 and June 9, marking the start of its most intense period. It follows the earlier Al-Batin rise, which ran from May 25 to June 6 and set the stage for rising heat.

From June 20 to July 2, the Al-Tuwaibi’ phase brought scorching temperatures and fierce hot winds. This was followed by the first Gemini period, lasting from July 3 to July 15, where Simoom winds became more frequent and summer heat intensified. Now, the final phase of the Al-Bawarih winds is underway, stretching from July 16 to July 28. The extreme conditions stem from the Indian monsoon low, the sun’s position, and relentless heat. Scattered clouds and active northwesterly winds have been observed at the start of the week, but little relief is expected. Traditionally, these winds are known in Arab heritage as strong, dust-laden northern gusts that dominate the summer months.

The current phase of the Al-Bawarih winds will persist until July 28, maintaining high temperatures and dusty conditions. With forecasts predicting peaks of 50°C, residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat. The seasonal pattern reflects a combination of atmospheric pressure systems and the region’s typical summer climate.
