Amazon's Kindle introduces AI summaries to refresh your reading

Amazon has launched a new AI-powered tool called Story So Far for Kindle users. The feature creates spoiler-free summaries of books, helping readers catch up without revealing future plot twists. It is now available on modern Kindle devices and apps for Android and iOS. Story So Far works by analysing the text a reader has already covered. It then generates a concise recap of the plot and characters up to that point, ensuring no spoilers for unread sections. The tool is aimed at those who read multiple books at once or struggle to remember details in long, complex stories.

To use the feature, readers can tap the ‘Read recap’ button in their Kindle Library or access it via the three-dot menu while reading. Unlike Amazon’s earlier X-Ray feature—which listed references to people, places, and things—Story So Far focuses on delivering a clean, narrative summary. The tool currently supports thousands of best-selling English-language e-books from the Amazon store or Kindle Unlimited. However, it is only available to customers in the USA. Compatible devices must run Kindle software version 5.19.4.0.1 or later.

Story So Far offers a quick way to refresh memory before diving back into a book. It avoids spoilers by summarising only what the reader has already seen. The feature is now live for eligible Kindle users in the US.
