Astana's Zhasyl El programme launches 22nd season with youth-led cleanups and urban projects
Astana has kicked off its 22nd season of the Zhasyl El youth employment programme. The initiative, part of the broader Taza Qazaqstan campaign, has already engaged over 5,200 young people aged 14 to 35. Their work will span construction, green spaces, schools, and urban improvement projects across the capital. The season began with a large-scale environmental cleanup along the Nur-Esil Canal. More than 50 volunteers from Zhasyl El gathered to remove litter from the banks of the Nura River. Asylbek Abdurashitov, the deputy head of the project, explained that the effort aimed to launch spring cleanups and highlight collective responsibility for the environment.
The event was jointly organised by the city’s Youth Policy Department and the Yesil District administration. Beyond this campaign, participants will take on roles in construction, landscaping, and maintenance at parks, schools, and social facilities throughout Astana. Zhasyl El, a youth-led project, continues to expand its reach. This year’s season builds on two decades of experience, offering employment and community engagement opportunities to thousands of young residents.
The programme’s latest season will see young workers contribute to both environmental and urban development projects. Their efforts will support the city’s infrastructure while promoting civic participation. Organisers expect the initiative to strengthen community ties and improve public spaces across the capital.
