Astana transforms Small Taldykol Lake into a vibrant ecopark by 2025

Astana is set to launch major greening projects and new walking routes this year. The plans form part of wider efforts to revitalise all districts of the city. Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek has now provided details on one of the key initiatives—the transformation of Small Taldykol Lake into an ecopark. The ecopark project aims to create a peaceful natural area near the city. Its focus lies on protecting the environment and supporting local biodiversity. This year, construction will begin on technical facilities, including a filtration system and new wells to regulate the lake’s water levels.

The first phase of planting trees and shrubs will start in autumn. Over 1.1 million new green spaces will be added across Astana in 2024. Beyond the lake, more than 170 residential courtyards and public spaces will also receive upgrades. Next year, the project will expand with the completion of walking paths and the development of quiet zones for relaxation. These additions will form part of a broader push to improve green infrastructure throughout the capital.

The revitalisation of Small Taldykol Lake marks the beginning of a multi-year greening strategy. With new technical systems, walking routes, and millions of plants, the city expects to enhance both environmental quality and public spaces. Further upgrades will continue in 2025 as part of the long-term plan.
