Atyrau Oblast cracks down on poaching with Operation Bekire-2026

Atyrau Oblast has launched a major crackdown on poaching and illegal fish trading. Named Operation Bekire-2026, the campaign has already led to the seizure of over four tons of illicit fish products. Authorities are now urging the public to report suspicious activity and help protect local wildlife. Since the operation began, officials have uncovered 152 violations linked to illegal fishing, storage, and sale of fish. Among the confiscated items were 911 kilograms of sturgeon and a single kilogram of sturgeon caviar. Investigators also seized 19 banned fishing tools and 10 watercraft used for unlawful activities.

All seized fish products have been handed over to the Ural-Atyrau Sturgeon Fish Farm. Meanwhile, seven criminal cases tied to the operation are currently under pretrial investigation. Alongside enforcement, authorities are running educational programmes for residents and local fisheries. The aim is to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by poaching and illegal trade.

The operation has already removed thousands of kilograms of illegally sourced fish from circulation. With ongoing investigations and public cooperation, officials hope to further reduce poaching in the region. Residents are encouraged to report any signs of illegal fishing or fish trafficking to law enforcement immediately.
