Austria's Climate Tickets drive record public transport growth in 2025

Public transport demand in Austria's Eastern Region (VOR) has surged in recent years. By the end of 2025, the network counted over one million regular users. A key driver has been the rising popularity of Climate Tickets, which saw another sharp increase last year.

The VOR network closed 2025 with 85,558 Climate Tickets issued—a 26% jump from 2024. This growth continues a strong upward trend: since 2021, the number of these tickets has more than tripled, rising from 23,674 to 85,558.

The increase mirrors a broader pattern across Austria. Regions like Tirol and Salzburg have also seen ticket sales double since 2021, with annual growth rates of 20–50%. Vorarlberg reported even steeper rises, exceeding 40% per year. Beyond Climate Tickets, the VOR network included 263,408 Top Youth Tickets, 58,783 Youth Tickets, and 12,330 annual route passes by December 31, 2025. It also covered several hundred thousand Wiener Linien annual passes and 171,467 nationally valid Austrian Climate Tickets.

The data confirms a steady shift toward sustainable travel options in the region. With Climate Tickets now accounting for a growing share of VOR's user base, public transport usage continues to climb. The trend aligns with similar gains in other Austrian transport associations.
