An eventbrite-style stakeholder workshop on biomedical research and public health was held in Dhaka this week. Organised by the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), the event brought together industry leaders, researchers, and government officials. The focus was on how innovations from the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI) could improve health and environmental standards by 2026.
The workshop took place on Tuesday at the IFST Auditorium of BCSIR. Titled 'BTRI's Role in Biomedical Research for Improving the Quality of Public Health and Environment – 2026', it attracted over 50 industrial organisations. Among the attendees were representatives from Square, Incepta, Acme, and Nestle, alongside academics from various universities.
BCSIR chairman Samina Ahmed served as the chief guest and highlighted potential business opportunities. She suggested that wealthy investors and entrepreneurs could leverage BTRI and BCSIR's research methods for new ventures. The event was presided over by BTRI director Md Abdus Satter Miah. Special guests included BCSIR members Abul Fatah Md Baligur Rahman, Md Toufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Md Iftikher Ahmed Chowdhury, and Hosne Ara Begum. While the workshop drew significant industry interest, no public details were released about the specific industrialists present.
The event aimed to bridge research and industry by showcasing BTRI's work in biomedical and environmental fields. Participants discussed ways to apply these findings in business and public health. The outcomes could shape future collaborations between research institutions and private enterprises.
