Cyber criminals have stolen over Rs 7.6 lakh from residents in Bhopal through separate scams. Victims include a retired colonel, a businessman, and a local resident who fell prey to fraudulent calls and hacking. On May 26, Nandkishor Goyal’s phone was hacked, allowing fraudsters to withdraw Rs 1.70 lakh from his bank account. The incident was reported, but the money remains unrecovered.
A retired colonel from Bawadia Kalan lost Rs 1.96 lakh after scammers pretended to be electricity department officials. They convinced him to transfer funds under false pretences.
Sonu Pandit filed a complaint at Bag Sewania Police Station after receiving a call from someone posing as a police officer. The scammer threatened him, leading to a loss of Rs 1 lakh.
Ravinder Singh was targeted by fraudsters who claimed to be updating his father’s insurance policy. He transferred Rs 2.96 lakh before realising it was a scam. Police have registered cases in connection with these incidents. The total amount lost across the four cases exceeds Rs 7.6 lakh. Authorities are investigating, but no arrests have been made so far.
