BMW Bank Strengthens Leadership with New Executive Appointment for 2026
BMW Bank has expanded its executive board with a new appointment set to take effect in early 2026. Stephan Cohnen, a seasoned leader within BMW Financial Services, will join the management team after gaining approval from the supervisory board. The Munich-based bank, known for its digital focus on automotive financing, currently employs around 1,170 staff and serves roughly one million customers across Europe.
Stephan Cohnen brings extensive experience to his new role. A business administration graduate, he started his career as an IT and transformation consultant before moving into leadership positions at BMW Financial Services. Over the years, he has worked in Germany, the UK, and Belgium, most recently overseeing customer service, processes, and IT at BMW Bank.
His appointment follows a decision by the supervisory board to strengthen the bank's leadership. Effective January 1, 2026, Cohnen will help guide BMW Bank's strategy as it continues to operate as a digital-first institution. The bank, headquartered at Lilienthalallee 26 in Munich, specialises in financing, leasing, insurance, and deposit products, with a presence in Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
Cohnen has outlined clear goals for his tenure. He aims to position BMW Bank as a modern financial services provider, focusing on high-quality customer service and streamlined digital processes. The bank currently supports around one million private and corporate clients without relying on physical branches.
The expansion of BMW Bank's executive board reflects its commitment to digital growth and customer-focused services. Cohnen's leadership experience and strategic vision will play a key role in shaping the bank's future direction. His appointment takes effect at the start of 2026, marking a new phase for the Munich-based institution.
