DB Electric Trains Roll Through Ahr Valley Three Months Early - Bonn-Ahrbrück rail line goes fully electric three months early

The RB 30 regional line between Bonn, Remagen, and Ahrbrück will switch to all-electric trains this Sunday—three months ahead of schedule. The upgrade follows years of rebuilding after severe flood damage in 2021 and marks a major improvement for passengers in the region.

The Ahr Valley railway suffered extensive destruction during the 2021 floods. Since then, the line has been fully restored, fitted with modern signalling systems and overhead electric cables. The RB 32 route, also serving the Ahr Valley, has already run on electric power since December 2021 under Trans Regio Deutsche Regionalbahn GmbH.

With the new electric service on RB 30, journey times between Bonn and Ahrbrück will drop by 15 to 20 minutes. Previously taking around 90 minutes, trips now last roughly 70 to 75 minutes thanks to faster acceleration and higher speeds. Service frequency has also doubled, with trains running every 30 minutes on weekdays instead of hourly. Local officials have welcomed the change. Cornelia Weigand, district administrator of Ahrweiler, expressed her satisfaction with the upgraded service and its benefits for commuters and visitors.

The electric trains begin operation this Sunday, offering quicker and more frequent connections. Passengers will now travel faster and more reliably between Bonn and the Ahr Valley. The upgrade completes a key phase in the region's post-flood recovery.
