Brandenburg Honors Innovators in Teaching and Research with 2026 Science Prizes
Brandenburg’s Science Minister Manja Schüle has presented the 2026 Brandenburg Science Prizes. The awards recognised outstanding teaching and research across the state’s universities. Winners included scholars from Potsdam, Eberswalde, and Frankfurt (Oder). Four teaching awards, each worth €10,000, were handed out. Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development secured three of them for innovative courses on agroforestry and sustainable education. The fourth went to the University of Potsdam for a unique programme exploring economic themes through children’s literature.
Two postdoctoral researchers each received €20,000. Jaya Bharti, based at the University of Potsdam, won for her work on sustainable hydrogen peroxide production. Jana Weiß, a literary scholar at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), was honoured for her research on class identity and social divides in literature. Schüle described the winners as 'educators who think beyond their own disciplines.' The awards highlight Brandenburg’s commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and impactful research.
The prizes celebrate both teaching excellence and cutting-edge research. Recipients will use the funding to advance their projects and educational methods. The ceremony underscored the region’s focus on sustainability, social analysis, and creative academic approaches.
