Bulgaria's First Cross-Border Wind PPA Powers 270,000 Homes with Clean Energy
Etem Gestamp and Rezolv Energy have signed a 10-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) in Bulgaria. The deal marks the first cross-border wind PPA publicly announced in the country. Under the agreement, Etem Gestamp will buy electricity from Rezolv Energy's 461MW VIFOR wind farm in Romania. The VIFOR wind farm, located in Buzău County, is set to come online soon. Once operational, it will generate enough clean energy to power over 270,000 homes. The project will also avoid around 540,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
This VPPA represents Rezolv Energy's first power purchase agreement of 2026 and Etem Gestamp's third overall. The company previously signed a 10-year solar PPA in Bulgaria back in 2022. By 2027, Etem Gestamp aims for 70% of its energy mix to come from renewable sources.
Nikolay Stoynov, Business Services Director at Etem Gestamp, highlighted Rezolv Energy's strong regional presence and sustainability focus. He also praised the company's ability to deliver long-term, reliable access to clean power. The new wind VPPA will work alongside Etem Gestamp's existing solar power supply.
Rezolv Energy's projects, including VIFOR, follow globally recognised environmental and social sustainability standards. While the VIFOR wind farm is nearing completion, Rezolv has no additional large wind or solar plants planned for Romania and Bulgaria by the end of 2026. However, the Dama Solar project (1.3 GW) in Arad County, Romania, is set to begin construction in mid-2026, with completion expected by early 2029. The St. George solar plant in Bulgaria is also under development, supported by a BESS grant, though no specific operational date has been confirmed. The agreement strengthens Etem Gestamp's renewable energy commitments while supporting Rezolv Energy's expansion in the region. With VIFOR's output soon to enter the grid, the deal will contribute to Bulgaria's growing clean energy supply. The partnership also sets a precedent for future cross-border renewable energy collaborations.
