Increased Capacity Without Renovation: DSV Automates Venlo Warehouse with 100 Robots

DSV boosts Venlo logistics with Exotec's robotic Skypod system

DSV has deployed Exotec’s Skypod robotic system at its logistics centre in Venlo, the Netherlands. The new installation aims to maintain current service standards while adding capacity for future expansion. The facility uses around 100 autonomous robots working with roughly 90,000 bins and trays. These robots form part of the Skypod system, designed by Exotec for fast, precise, and scalable logistics operations. It follows a goods-to-person approach, ensuring quick and dependable order processing.

An extra intermediate level is included for returns handling, with automated functions to streamline workflows. The solution is expected to improve distribution efficiency from the Dutch site. DSV is also standardising workflows across its centres by adopting automated storage and material handling systems.

Jan Heijblom, Senior Sales Executive at Exotec Benelux, stated his satisfaction in supporting DSV’s Venlo operations. The system will help DSV serve its diverse retail clients with greater flexibility. The new system strengthens DSV’s ability to handle orders and returns efficiently. It also positions the company to scale operations as demand grows. The automation supports standardised processes across DSV’s logistics network.
