EA's Creator Marketplace for The Sims 4 launches with Moola currency on March 17
Electronic Arts is launching a Creator Marketplace for The Sims 4 on March 17. The platform will let players buy and sell mods and custom content. Initially, it will be available on PC and Mac, with Xbox and PlayStation versions arriving later.
To make purchases, players will need to use a new in-game currency called Moola.
The marketplace operates similarly to paid mod shops in other games, like Bethesda's Creation Club. However, such systems have previously faced criticism from gamers. Approved creators can publish their work directly, reaching a worldwide audience through an official channel.
Sales revenue will be split, with creators keeping 30% of each transaction. The remaining 70% covers publishing costs, platform fees, taxes, server expenses, and payment processing. Official expansions and kits, however, will still require real money—Moola cannot be used for these purchases. Moola packages will be sold in tiers, starting at 200 Moola for $2.49 and going up to 5,500 Moola for $49.99. Critics note that using a proprietary currency can make real-world spending less transparent, potentially encouraging players to buy more. EA has not yet revealed how many independent creators will have content ready at launch. Details on where players can preview or access mods before March 17 also remain unclear.
The Creator Marketplace will go live on March 17 for PC and Mac users, with console support following later. Players will need Moola to buy custom content, while creators earn a 30% share of sales. The system keeps official expansions separate, requiring real-money purchases as before.
