Emerson to Automate $2B Louisiana Green Fuels Plant for Carbon-Neutral Power
Strategic Biofuels has chosen Emerson to automate the Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) project, a $2-billion facility in Caldwell Parish. The plant will turn forestry waste into carbon-neutral electricity while capturing and storing CO₂. Emerson's technology and expertise will play a key role in ensuring the project's efficiency and safety. The LGF facility marks a major step toward carbon-neutral energy production in Louisiana. Once fully operational, it will process 1.3 million tons of forestry waste each year. This will generate 100 megawatts of clean, reliable electricity and capture 1.1 million metric tons of CO₂ annually.
Emerson will provide a full range of automation solutions for the plant. This includes the DeltaV™ Automation Platform, Rosemount™ smart sensors, and Micro Motion™ flow measurement tools. The company will also supply control valves, pressure protection devices, and AspenTech® data management software to optimise operations. The project aims to create a model for commercially viable, carbon-neutral energy. Emerson's experience in biomass power and carbon capture made it the preferred partner for Strategic Biofuels. Its technologies will help ensure continuous, safe, and efficient plant performance. Beyond automation, the LGF project represents a significant development for Caldwell Parish and Louisiana's energy future. It supports local energy independence while positioning the state as a leader in sustainable power generation.
The LGF facility will rely on Emerson's advanced automation and CCS expertise to meet its goals. At full capacity, it will deliver clean electricity and capture over a million tons of CO₂ each year. The project sets a benchmark for future carbon-neutral energy initiatives in the US.
