Firefly Aerospace has struck a new commercial payload deal with Volta Space Technologies. The agreement will see Volta’s wireless power receiver included on Firefly’s upcoming Blue Ghost Mission 2 to the Moon. Financial terms of the partnership remain undisclosed. The Blue Ghost Mission 2 lander is scheduled to touch down on the far side of the Moon. Alongside Volta’s wireless power receiver, it will carry five other payloads, including a NASA radio telescope and an ESA satellite. This mission marks a key step in testing Volta’s planned LightGrid power network for lunar operations.
Firefly Aerospace’s CEO, Jason Kim, highlighted the mission’s role in advancing long-term lunar technology. He described Blue Ghost Mission 2 as essential for proving systems that could support lasting human and robotic activity on the Moon.
Investors responded positively to the announcement, pushing Firefly’s stock (FLY) up by 9.46% on Wednesday. The company’s growing list of commercial partnerships signals strong interest from businesses in its lunar missions. The collaboration with Volta Space Technologies adds to Firefly’s expanding portfolio of payload agreements. With six payloads confirmed for Blue Ghost Mission 2, the mission is set to demonstrate new capabilities for sustained lunar exploration.
