Fort Collins gears up for its 19th Winter Bike to Work Day

Phil Collins will host its 19th annual Winter Bike to Work Day on Friday, February 13. The event is part of a global movement that began in 2013, encouraging people to cycle or walk during winter months. What started as a small initiative with a few hundred participants has now grown into a worldwide celebration of active travel.

The tradition in Fort Collins has drawn around 2,000 participants each year. This year, breakfast stations will open from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. at various points across the city. Cyclists and walkers can also stop by afternoon stations between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. for refreshments on their way home.

A Colorado State University station will be set up on the south side of the Oval, near the Administration Building. A full map of all station locations will be available online at fortcollins.gov/BTWD before the event.

The initiative aims to cut down on car use, helping to reduce vehicle miles travelled. Over the years, participants have collectively avoided an estimated 6.7 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.

Winter Bike to Work Day has grown from a modest campaign into a well-established event in Fort Collins. By choosing bikes or walking, residents contribute to cleaner air and less traffic congestion. The city continues to support the tradition with accessible stations and community engagement.
